Faculty Biographies

Dr. Barbara DewarDr. Barbara Dewar Ph.D., OSP, CAPT, holds a Ph.D. in therapeutic counseling. She is registered with The Ontario Society of Psychotherapists (OSP) as well as holding a membership with The Canadian Association of Psychodynamic Therapy (CAPT).

Her original training for becoming a psychotherapist began with social work at Humber College and continued over many years with Therafields, the University of Toronto, and with other associations of colleagues.

Barbara has conducted a psychotherapy practice for over 26 years with individuals, groups, couples and families and is presently active in all of these areas. She also co-facilitates The OPC program with Jo-Anne Corbeil.

She has recently co-authored an essay with Sandra Campbell on the Esprit Networking practice called, "From intersubjective psychotherapy to Esprit Networking: Mapping a social practice". The book is titled Learning Toward An Ecological Consciousness, edited by Edmund V. O'Sullivan and Marilyn Taylor and is published by Palgrave Macmillan of New York (2004).

Barbara also conducts a yearly mid-life retreat for spring renewal and for the exploration of new visions for the next year.

Amy McGrath, M.A., OPC Certificate, OSP, CAPT, holds a Masters in Sociology. She is registered with The Ontario Society of Psychotherapist (OSP) as well as holding a membership with The Canandian Association of Psychodynamic Therapy (CAPT).

Her training began in obtaining her Bachelors of Theology with a concentration in both Pastoral and Theological studies, from which point she received her Liscenced Minister credentials.  She then spent 8 years as a counselor and Program Director for a long-term residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility.  She continued her studies, obtaining a second bachelors degree in Sociology and then her Masters in Sociology from York University in Toronto. She entered the OPC Program in September 2003 and graduated in May 2008.

Amy began a private practice in psychotherapy in the St. Catharines and Niagara areas in 2004. She conducts individual therapy, couples therapy and group therapy.

Amy joined the OPC Program as the Tutorial Assistant in May 2008 and became Associate Faculty in June 2009.

Blake Carter MFA, DCTP, has had three careers. He began acting at the age of eight in Victoria B.C. When he was nineteen he moved to London, England where he trained for three years at The Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. He worked as a professional actor in Britain until 1979.

The summer of 1979, he moved to Toronto. In September of 1980 he began studying at York University and in 1982 he received his MFA (Master's of Fine Art). He continued working as a professional actor until 1984. In 1984 he left the theatre and began working in restaurant management.

In September of 1993 Blake began his training at The Centre for Training in Psychotherapy (CTP Toronto). Blake graduated from the CTP program in 2000 and has been working as a psychotherapist ever since, both in Ontario and in British Columbia. Blake has studied Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples with Janet Cleghorn and also completed a two-year teacher's training program in Classical Yoga at The Vidya Institute and is now a certified yoga instructor. Blake works with individuals, couples and groups in a full time psychotherapy practice.

Blake joined the OPC Program as Adjunct Faculty in September 2006.

Dr. Heather Lee Kilty, Ph.D., holds a Ph.D. in Health Services and a Ph.D. in Therapeutic Counseling.  Her original training began with a diploma in Social Services, from which point she went on to get her B.A. and then her MEd. from Harvard University.

Heather is a published author and the co-founder of Stress & Wellness Enterprises.  She works as a consultant, motivational speaker and is currently on Faculty at Brock University.

Heather has had a counseling practice since 1980 in stress management, grief work, career counseling, addictions and positive conscious living.

Heather joined the OPC Program as an Adjunct Faculty member in January 2007

Mitra MontazeriMitra Montazeri, Pharm.D., CAPT member, graduated from faculty of pharmacy, university of Toronto and worked as the intensive care units pharmacist at St. Michael's hospital in Toronto and St. Joseph's hospital in Hamilton. She later returned to school to complete her Doctorate of Pharmacy program, also from University of Toronto in 1995.

Mitra has been working in the medical departments of Dupont Pharma and Bristol Myers squibb pharmaceutical companies mainly focusing in the HIV and Hepatitis therapeutic areas.

She has a great deal of experience teaching physicians, interns, residents, nursing and pharmacy students on various topics on drug therapies.

She joined OPC in 2004 and is currently in supervision. She is moving to London England, but will continue to be an active member of OPC and will be attending residencies.
